I thought this was a really neat concept. The “Vitruvian Man” was one of the first really good anatomical maps we had of the human body and was considered a great scientific achievement. In the background, Da Vinci’s lightly marked circle has been replaced with a summary map of the human genome. It’s sort of a mash-up between old “high science” and new “high science”. For someone like me who takes for granted the fact that I can splice genes, amplify DNA, and make bacteria resistant to any drug I want, it’s very humbling to remember how far we’ve come in such a short time.
